Underarm Sweat

Underarm sweat is there to regulate the body temperature in that area. It’s also to provide lubrication between the arms and body as they rub against each other when we move our arms. It is therefore normal and necessary to have underarm sweat under the appropriate conditions. Like other facilities in our bodies, it can malfunction and produce too much or too little underarm sweat.

By far the more common of the two, too much underarm sweat (Axillary Hyperhidrosis) afflicts millions of Americans. Other parts of the body specifically affected by excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis) are the hands (Palmar), feet (Plantar) and face (Facial). Too little underarm sweat (Anhidrosis) on the other hand is not as common, but much more serious and usually life-threatening.

There are 2 main categories of excessive underarm sweat. The first one is Primary Excessive Underarm Sweat and it affects only the underarms. Although it may be accompanied by excessive hands, feet or face sweat, it is seldom tied to another physiological problem. The other category, Secondary Excessive Underarm Sweat is, as depicted by name, the result of another underlying medical disorder such as diabetes, malignancy, thyroid, fever and so forth.

Again, everybody will have underarm sweat but for around 1 % or so of people, the amount there is excessive. Although the condition of primary excessive Underarm Sweat is not life-threatening, it can affect the sufferers emotionally, physically and psychologically. Many of them find it disruptive in work, sports, social events and many other routine facets of everyday living. Insufficient underarm sweat not only results in more severe physical discomfort, it also requires medical specialist attention more urgently.

Excessive underarm sweat is more than just a nuisance or inconvenience. Technically speaking, it is a medical condition that must be treated. Otherwise, like many other medical problems, it will worsen with time. The pathological cause of it is quite complex but simplistically, it can be the result of diet, state of mind, fitness level or a combination of them.

Very often, going back to the basics of a balanced diet, lifestyle discipline and physical exercise is in itself a greatly effective treatment for issues with underarm sweat. Specific information on Excessive Underarm Sweat can be found at this Excessive Underarm Sweat eGuide.
